Bronx Study Hall: CDL permit prep at Bronx HYPE in Mott Haven

On May 19, Emerge Career hosted our weekly Bronx Study Hall in partnership with Bronx HYPE in Mott Haven. Pizza, practice questions, and a real plan for getting the CDL Class A permit done.

Two students came through and both walked out with their permit exams scheduled — Jose for 5/21 and Robert for 5/22. That's a 100% booking rate from the room, which is exactly the bar we want to hit at every session.

Why Mott Haven matters

The South Bronx has some of the deepest disconnection from the freight economy of any neighborhood in the country, despite sitting on top of the Hunts Point produce and meat markets — the largest food distribution hub in the world. Drivers are needed. CDL eligibility is more forgiving than people expect, especially for justice-impacted candidates with the right documentation, and a Class A license can clear $70K starting.

Jose told us what he valued about the session was simple: "They were willing to help and inform the community with CDL information." That's the whole point. Robert kept it just as direct — "looking forward to the test."
