Free CDL Prep in Queens — Study Hall at Ravenswood with Queens Public Library
On Tuesday, April 14th, Emerge Career ran a free CDL permit prep Study Hall in partnership with Queens Public Library at their Ravenswood location in Long Island City. The session ran from 3:30 to 5:00 PM and was open to anyone in our program preparing for the Commercial Learner's Permit exam.
Queens is one of the hardest boroughs to serve well if you're running a citywide program. It's huge, transit options are uneven, and a lot of workforce programs simply don't show up here. That's exactly why we do. Queens Public Library is a true partner in reentry work, and hosting our Study Hall at their Ravenswood location means students in western Queens don't have to trek to Manhattan or the Bronx to get support.
What Happens at a Study Hall
Every Study Hall follows the same format: structured practice questions covering the three CDL permit exam sections — General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles — plus one-on-one help from Emerge Career staff. Students work at their own pace. Some are days away from their test date. Others are just getting started.
Emerge Career's CDL training program is completely free for justice-impacted New Yorkers. That means the study sessions, the training, the DOT physical, and job placement — all covered.
Live in Queens and want to earn your CDL? Apply to Emerge Career and we'll get you into a Study Hall near you.
