Student Reimbursement Policy

Emerge Career offers financial assistance for key steps like DOT Physicals, CLP exams, and license reinstatement to help justice-involved and low-income students succeed.

As part of our commitment to helping justice-involved and low-income students succeed, Emerge Career offers financial support for key expenses like DOT Physicals, CLP exams, and license reinstatement.

Our goal is to support students who are committed to getting a second chance in their career. To ensure fairness and sustainability, we follow clear guidelines on what we cover and when.

✅ General Guidelines

  • Reimbursements are processed weekly on Fridays (before 5pm EST) if you are conditionally enrolled and meet all eligibility criteria.
  • You must be able to sustain yourself during trucking school, whether through savings, family support, or a job that fits your class schedule. We ask about this to make sure you’re set up for success.
  • Reimbursements are processed via our reimbursements platform Tremendous. You can find your reimbursements by following these directions.

🚛 DOT Physical Reimbursements

  • We reimburse DOT Physicals for students who are conditionally enrolled and on track to join our ongoing trucking school cohort.
  • We regularly project how many students with completed DOTs will progress to enrollment. If there are more students with DOT Physicals in-hand than there are seats, we may pause DOT reimbursements early. 
    • Example: If there are 100 students with their DOT Physicals and only 50 cohort seats, then we may pause reimbursements for DOT Physicals.
  • You’ll still be eligible for reimbursement when the next cohort begins if you are still actively participating in our program.
  • If you complete your DOT Physical after reimbursements were paused—but you still end up enrolling in an active cohort—we will reimburse you before your trucking school start date.

🔔 You'll receive an announcement (email, banner, and text) if/when we pause reimbursements. A one-week grace period applies after that announcement.

📝 CLP Exam Reimbursements

  • We reimburse the cost of Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) exam attempts for conditionally enrolled students as long as seats remain in an ongoing cohort.
  • Once the cohort fills, we’ll send an announcement, and then apply a 1-week buffer before pausing reimbursements.
  • After that, you’ll need to wait for the next cohort—and be actively participating in our program—to receive reimbursements for your CLP Exam fee. 

🔁 Upfront Reimbursements (Case-by-Case)

We may offer support before your appointment (for DOT or CLP) if:

  • You’ve completed at least 20 practice exams on the Emerge platform
  • You submit a form explaining your situation
  • You include proof of a scheduled appointment 
  • You’ve submitted receipts for all previous upfront reimbursements, and followed through on the steps you were provided financial support for.

💡 For CLP attempts, if we’ve already covered 2 exam attempts and you haven’t passed any sections, we may not approve a third upfront payment. Show us you're making progress!

🔐 License Reinstatement Support

We cover up to $300 toward reinstating your license if:

  • You submit a form explaining your situation, including proof of your inactive license.
  • There are cohort seats remaining in an ongoing cohort.
  • You’ve finished the course
  • You’ve completed at least 20 practice exams on our platform.
  • Your only barrier to progressing  is an inactive license (e.g., no unresolved disqualifications or other issues)

If you owe more than $300, you’ll need to reduce the amount owed before we can assist.

🧠 We’ll also ask why your license was suspended to make sure there are no unresolved issues that would prevent you from succeeding in the program.

❗ Special Notes

  • If you were rejected or put on hold after making an expense related to becoming a CDL truck-driver through Emerge Career, we may still reimburse you—but only if:
    • You were conditionally enrolled at the time of the expense
    • You reach out and flag the request (we won’t catch these automatically)
