1. Determine the Reason for Suspension or Revocation

Contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or check your online DMV account to identify the reason for your suspension or revocation. Review the Notice of Suspension/Revocation for details.

2. Address the Cause of Suspension

Take action based on the reason for your suspension. This may include paying fines, resolving court issues, completing a DUI program, or arranging payments for child support arrears.

3. Pay the Reinstatement Fee

Pay the required reinstatement fee at the DMV. Fees vary based on the suspension type but often include a $55 Reissue Fee.

If you are an Emerge Career participant enrolled in one of our vocational training programs, we will support your license reinstatement (up to $300) and work with you to develop an action plan to cover the remaining costs. Interested in training? Sign up here.

4. Complete Required Programs

Fulfill any court-mandated or DMV-required programs, such as traffic school, DUI programs, or community service.

5. Provide Proof of Insurance (SR-22, if Required)

If your suspension requires proof of insurance, contact your insurance provider to file an SR-22 certificate with the DMV.

6. Visit the DMV to Finalize Reinstatement

Bring all required documents, including proof of resolved suspensions, completion certificates, and SR-22 insurance, to your local DMV office to complete the reinstatement process.
