Why Reinstating Your Driver’s License Matters

A driver’s license is more than just a permission slip to drive—it’s a key to independence, opportunity, and mobility. 1. Determine the Reason for Suspension or Revocation

Check the status of your driver’s license by visiting the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website or contacting the DMV directly. Your suspension or revocation notice will outline the reason for suspension, which may include unpaid fines, a DUI/DWAI, or excessive points on your driving record.

2. Address the Cause of Suspension

Take the necessary steps based on the reason for suspension.

3. Pay the Reinstatement Fee

Reinstatement fees vary based on the type of suspension:

• Points Suspension: $95
• DUI/DWAI Suspension: $95–$170

4. Complete Mandatory Programs

Complete all court-ordered or DMV-mandated programs, such as alcohol education, driver improvement courses, or community service.

5. Submit Proof of Insurance (SR-22, if Required)

For serious violations like DUIs, provide an SR-22 insurance certificate from your insurance provider. This must typically be maintained for three years.

6. Apply for Reinstatement

Submit your reinstatement application online or at a DMV office.
